There’s no need to explain the calm serenity that comes from me-time. In fact, you may have experienced it so deeply in the past that your mind and body crave it when you’re stressed.

And even if you haven’t fully experienced it yet, you’ve certainly heard about the physical, mental and emotional releases and shifts that come from therapeutic mindfulness.

Bottom line, while you may not be able to explain it, you love when an experienced guide helps you process on multiple levels in spite of yourself so you can return to life feeling lighter with an “I’ve got this” attitude.

This also means you’re not losing your temper on the kiddos at the bewitching hours or avoiding your own bedtime with media.

Mindful living? Of course!

But how do I stay grounded and advancing?

The repetitive demands of work, errands and chores keep you in your head from the minute your eyes open to closing them at night. But you’re no stranger to mindfulness. You recognize the early warning signs of stress, worry or anxiousness. On a good day, without hesitation, you employ the mindfulness tools you’ve developed. In the morning you organize yourself, mid-day you take moments to regain focus and at night you settle yourself to get as much quality sleep as possible - and yet, you still get overwhelmed

But here’s where most people begin to lose their faith in the process as well as their gusto to keep at it.

By the end of the week, being busy has built up so much stress momentum that even a nice evening out isn’t helping you find inner calm. You want to move on from the clutter of the last week and actually enjoy your weekend instead of being in recovery mode for two days. And moreover despite all that mindfulness during the week, you feel like you’re not growing or making progress towards joy.

And here’s why the situation won’t change.

You’re simply exhausted. You’ve been doing for others all week without doing for yourself. Now you just need an outside ‘umph’ to slow you down and regroup. You need a little something extra to get you over the hump that's blocking you from inner stillness. Otherwise, you know that you will be returning to the same cycle next week.

While your daily efforts calmed the immediate flare ups, to transform those stubborn daily obstacles into personal growth you need to go deeper and fully surrender in processing.

The good news is that when you’re exhausted, full surrender isn’t that far away . . . IF you can make 3 mindset shifts to unleash an efficient but effective self-care routine.

1.      I need a hands-on treatment for physical relief. 

The immediate relief from a massage can feel necessary and cathartic. But the relief will be temporary if only the soft tissue is treated. In this self-care model, regular treatments are required to continuously restore relief. If you desire a deeper, lasting relief, you ALSO need to treat the sensory stimuli, memory, belief or trigger that is causing the physical tension pattern. Only when you see and release all these layers, will you find a deep, more complete relief that you can feel on every level. This is why Craniosacral Therapy and other integrative therapies are beloved, popular and respected worldwide.

2.      I don’t have the time, much less the energy, for regular self-care. 

Often, we try to do too much on our own. This means we don’t have the inner resources, time or energy available to regroup by ourselves. Independent self-care isn’t realistic when we’re already stretched thin, exhausted and overwhelmed. However, a little therapeutic support in the form of “holding space” can transform me-time deferment into restorative, personal fulfillment that keeps you functioning optimally. Allowing someone else to hold space for you allows you to receive and fully surrender into deep self-healing. This is how, “I’m too tired for self-care” becomes, “I can’t wait for me-time and the demands of life can wait.” Deep restorative healing also improves your focus and time management skills making self-care a tangible investment in productivity, not just another thing on your to-do list.

3.  I’ve tried many programs, from gurus to apps, and while they’re nice, it feels like I’m still missing something that I can’t put my finger on.

Most healing programs are about protocols, tools or people – all things that exist outside of you when everything you need already exists within. What’s missing in your holistic toolbox is the ability to access these internal resources when you need them most. Instead of simply accumulating external tools, learn to harness the power within you to become a master of navigating your everyday life. When you are familiar with and can connect to the same natural rhythms that created your whole being from a few cells, you feel in sync with your inner self, knowing and understanding what your body’s telling you. This ability also helps you to settle yourself and access inner wisdom on demand so you can be resilient, go with the flow and feel like yourself no matter what.
